Lusaka (Zambia) 08/03/2010.- The celebrations for the International Women’s Day in Lusaka are marked with the colourful march-pass which will stop the traffic of Lusaka’s Independence Avenue. It is all joy; it is all merry! Yet, it contrasts with the reality of women in Zambia, and perhaps in Africa and most of third world countries.Women in Zambia are often treated with violence inside the family setting where none respects their dignity and human rights. Women, especially young girls are prey to sexual abuse from relatives and close relations. and a big question posses today’s celebrations: What is the government doing in order to actually uphold women’s rights? Everyone knows women’s duties, especially husbands and children, but they are the first not to really care for women’s rights.
Today it is a great opportunity to care and actually do show some appreciation for women’s courage and dedication to family life. Today is the big opportunity to thank God for our mothers, sisters and friends who make of the world a better place to live.
Thank God for women!
